Chandigarh,07,DEC,2025,(India Today News CA):- The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) alleges that nominations of its candidates for Punjab’s Block Samiti and Zila Parishad elections were rejected on a massive scale, claiming bias by officials at the behest of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party, led by spokesperson Dr. Daljit Cheema, highlighted widespread rejections across districts like Tarn Taran (41 out of 72 Zila Parishad seats), Gandiwind, Khadoor Sahib, and others, resulting in many AAP candidates winning unopposed.
Key Rejection Details
SAD reported specific instances, such as 77 out of 100 Block Samiti nominations rejected in Bhikhiwind, 56 out of 75 in Patti, and zero SAD candidates allowed in Zira or Bhoa. Similar patterns occurred in Majitha (12 rejections), Raja Sansi (25 out of 35), and areas like Fatehgarh Churian, Qadian, Jaitu, and Ajnala.
SAD’s Demands
SAD has demanded an extension of the nomination filing deadline in affected areas to ensure a free and fair poll, along with action against the State Election Commission for supervisory failures and removal of Patiala SSP Varun Sharma over alleged interference. These claims emerged around December 5-6, 2025, amid ongoing rural polls in Punjab.
