British Columbia,24,FEB,2026,(India Today News CA):- Two snowmobilers from 100 Mile House, British Columbia—a 65-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman—died after their snowmobiles broke through the ice on Charlotte Lake near Anahim Lake. They fell through on February 17, 2026, but weren’t reported missing until February 20, allowing the lake to refreeze and hide the break.
Incident Details
Neighbors spotted the bodies under the ice while police were en route, but recovery waited until February 22 when the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, trained in ice diving, retrieved them. Foul play isn’t suspected, and the BC Coroners Service is investigating.
Safety Warning
Variable temperatures raise risks on frozen lakes, so RCMP urges extreme caution for winter activities. Sgt. Scott Clay expressed condolences to the victims’ family and friends.
