New Delhi,11,DEC,2025,(India Today News CA):- The University of Western Australia (UWA) plans to establish branch campuses in Mumbai and Chennai, India, with operations starting by August 2026.
Investment Details
UWA will invest $55 million to set up these campuses at existing private properties, marking its first physical presence in India as a Group of Eight university.
The initiative aligns with India’s National Education Policy 2020, fostering Indo-Australian academic ties through teaching, research, and industry partnerships.
Strategic Locations
Mumbai will host the first campus, followed by Chennai, targeting hubs of innovation, technology, and education.
These sites aim to enroll up to 12,000 students over 10 years, offering programs tailored to Indian needs with global opportunities.
Leadership and Timeline
A high-level UWA delegation is advancing partnerships, with David Das appointed as COO for UWA India to oversee setup.
The University Grants Commission has approved the expansion, positioning UWA amid India’s youth demographic of over 371 million aged 15-29.
